Rosette's Official Anthem or "Eu vou à Rosette / I'm going to Rosette"

Thanks to an oldies party in Pra-Kys-Tão, I was remembered that in the 80's there was a great portuguese band called Taxi and one of their musics was "Queda dos Anjos" (Fall of the Angels) that talks about a girl called Rosette. Pay attention to the lyrics and you'll find out the similarities between this Rosette and "our" Rosette Int. Hostel.



For those who don't understand portuguese and would like to know what the lyrics mean just post a comment and our professional group of translators will take care of it. :)

De vez em quando, neste mundo virtual que é a Internet, deparamo-nos com lixo (muito lixo) e com alguma pérolas (raras, se não não seriam pérolas). Hoje, encontrei uma quase-pérola que achei por bem partilhar convosco, caros Rosetteanos.

Once in a while in this virtual world of Internet, we stumble upon garbage (a lot of garbage) and some pearls (rare, otherwise they wouldn't be pearls). Today, I found one almost-pearl that I thought it would be nice to share with you, dear Rosetteans.
I present you Dona Rosete's Blog (another alter ego from Maria Rueff, portuguese comedian) in which she opinates about what goes on around here (even if it is a soap opera in TVI fashion like most times).

Após muito esforço e dedicação por parte de muitos dos Rosetteanos finalmente chegou o dia que poderá mudar a história da Nossa casa para sempre. A proposta vai ser levada à mesa hoje pelas 22H00: o Conselho de Repúblicas de Coimbra vai-se debruçar sobre se a Rosette entrará em processo de se transformar na Real República da Rosette. Esperamos ansiosamente pela oportunidade de defendermos o papel, muitas vezes de ambito internacional, comunitário, de entreajuda e interventivo dos estudantes que por aqui passaram. 

Assim que houver boas novas daremos a conhecer aqui no blog.

Travelling around the world... by Bike!

Keiichi Iwasaki is a 36 years old japanese who, in 2002, decided to leave his ordinary life in Japan and start a travel around the World on a bike! After passing through 36 countries he finally arrived in Portugal and decided also to spend a few days in our dear Rosette Int. Hostel. Meanwhile he already joined an expedition in Nepal to climb the Everest, crossed the Caspian sea on a row boat and pedal all his way through Asia and Europe. But he wishes to keep on going for 5 more years in order to pass trhough Africa, South and North America until he reaches Japan again, his homecountry that he doesn't see since he left 7 years ago. What keeps him going it's not just the will to see the World but also to spread a message of Peace. In the end he whishes to write a book with the memories of his adventures.

Without any sponsors he earns what he needs by doing magic tricks on the streets which also gives him the chance to meet the locals and from time to time even the local and national media becomes interested in his story and publishes it. This happened in Lisbon with the newspaper Correio da Manhã that published his story on the 22nd of March edition.

Pillow fight - Coimbra

For the first time in Coimbra an event that pillows will never forget: more than 100 people joined in one of the city gardens, Jardim da Sereia, to let go all the rage acumulated from each personal frustrations or just for fun. Integrated in the 110th celebration of Queima das Fitas, the famous student festival, the pillows were gathered and smashed into other people's faces.

The special Rosette news reporter was there to evidence the massacre of what was once many confortable and fluffy pillows... As far as we know nobody was harmed during the confrontations, even though we can't say the same for the poor pillows whose "guts" were flying all over the place as everyone can see on the above photo and on the video below.

We would like to thank the youtube community for sharing this video footage with the rest of the world.

Hospitality Club Xperience: Xtended Version

In the beginning of March we had the visit of the great Vroni-Duo from Munchen. Veronika and Veronika came for what was expected to be just a few calm "sunday-like" days in Coimbra and ended up to be a "full on" week with lots of cultural activities, concerts, philosophical discussions, all night parties and of course the traditional "let's get some olives and cheese from the market after via" morning tours. Their Portuguese tour had to be reschedule since Coimbra's audience was always eager for some more action. The empathy was established right from the start and so a future meeting is expected for some time soon.

Until further notice, may your days prosper has if they were always Vroni Sundays!

Rosette meets Nina Simone

On the 30th and 31st of last January, Rosette International Hostel proudly hosted a group of young artists who have an interesting project called "Tribute to Nina Simone". They come from Caldas da Rainha where they met, since all of them studied in the School of Fine Arts there. The reason of their coming to Coimbra was two fully booked and great concerts in Salão Brazil. This Rosette/Nina Simone "meeting" was due to a common friend and member of the Ro Family, Sofia.

No rescaldo da época passada na Rosette, os residentes aprumam-se nas suas tarefas domésticas. Neste caso o residente Fil foi apanhado na lente dos Paparazzi sempre atentos! Assim se prepara a casa para mais uma semana de intensa actividade... sempre com estilo.

Mega dinner in Rosette with our friends from Italy, Belgium and Holland!

Like we always do, once again we found a good excuse not to study. We've been delighted with the great Sicilian banquet made by our three Hospitality Club's guests from Catania, Sicily.
It was a damn crazy night! A lot of music and the help of our red "friend" from Monsaraz kept us rolling with high spirit all night long.
Already outside, with a big foggy moon over our heads, we passed by the stairs of Quebra Costas and next to the spot marked by the "X" followed by a nice trip to the fiume Mondego. We were just at the right time and at the right place to see the train passing by the avenue and gives a good honk! (I don´t think we're allucinating, yet)
On the way back home nobody lost it's path thanks to the AbrazzoTerapia that kept us warm and high.

depois do verão a nostalgia do regresso

Após umas curtas férias os rosettes estão de volta ao mar de páginas cheias de assuntos indesejados e incompreendidos mas tão necessários para o caminho que tem que ser percorrido: acabar o cursito assim que se puder.

Algumas mudanças no "organograma" da casa. Um dos moradores prepara-se para partir de malas aviadas para a República Checa para um ano de aventura em Erasmus, falo é claro do Tiago "Titi" Ribeiro-Roberts. Como o caos e a desordem não se podiam instalar devido ao vazio deixado por este membro da casa, eu mudei-me para cá. :) Feito mitra, invadi a casa e exigi um lugar. Assim o espírito da Rossette irá continuar! Com os novos reforços para esta nova temporada, que não se ficarão por aqui, a "casa" promete não deixar cair o que outros antes de nós ajudaram a construir.

P.S.: É o meu primeiro post, por isso, perdoem-me se fugi a alguma regra ou tendência do blog que não tenha reparado. Fiquem bem!

Back from the road.

We arrived yesterday in the current stay of our's in the Netherlands, in Breda. My phone was lost in the car for so long time, I could not let you guys know, that we are not taking the road back to Coimbra this time. But we both - Lobo (now the true name form whom you knew as Bert) and me descided to come back no matter what... So let us know, when and what we could come for.

From my part? This trip has given me a good grownd to go on. The puzzle was put together. I have a clear vision of what I have to do, with what I am. So I wish, I would have learned more Portugese, while I was there. But I quess, this what I have in mind will be understood also in the languages I speak already - where ever my road takes me to do it. At least I'm really concidering leaving this continent for a while. Find the people who can help me with my goals and give me the freedom of creation, I long for. It is not that I would not have it already or that I would look for some adventures. My travels just have teached me about my reason. You had a great role in it. Thank you again for everything!

I'm really hoping to see you soon. Might even be somewhere I invite you...
But lets see about that. We have all the time we take.

Get Skype, so we can exchange movies and music. Im still looking for that song I mentioned. And I know that in Coimbra there is lot of music that I would like to listen more to. Maybe I have something for your collection too...

Advertem-se todos os utilizadores deste blog que tenham a consciência que pensão Rosette é apenas mais um produto meu. O património Rosetteano não se extingue nos bens imobiliários. Fui eu, Rosete de meu nome (ou Roseta como me chamava o papá) que dei nome à pensão. Foi no ano de 2004 que deixei a casa, após pequena quesália com outro dos moradores, o André. Apesar da complicada relação que tive com este indivíduo, estimava muito a nossa adorada mansão... Todos os seus cantinhos xeirosos ainda hoje me enchem as mucosas de alegria...

Não tenho, portanto, qualquer objecção à existência deste blog, pelo contrário! Fico muito excitada ao ler as novidades da minha antiga casinha! Mas exigo que seja reconhecido que a verdadeira Rosette não é a casa, sou eu!!! Por isso, a partir de hoje, altero o nome do blog para que possam também discutir outros assuntos importantes, como... a importância dos cães detectives, o flagelo dos canis, conselhos para um pelo luzidio e outras coisas do género....
